My First Car – Rough Song

My First Car

This is a song I wrote for the Dec/Jan Challenge at the Home Recording Forum. It is rough because I have a bad cold and trying to sing was a genuine task. The deadline for the recording is today though so I waited as long as I could to get better and then this morning laid down the vox track. I only had enough lungs for two takes. I kept the second one and that’s what you hear in MP3 format when you click the link above.

Particulars for those who may be interested.
I wanted a marching sort of offbeat to the snares and recorded 6 tracks of snare drum. It drove the animals in the house crazy as I spent two and a half hours pressing record and hitting the snare through the song. I would like to say it was done in 6 takes but that would be a filthy lie. ;)
The riff and the rhythm guitars were done in Cubasis. A few measures of 6 different guitars were recorded to tape and then sent to Cubasis where I built the song structure. (See previous frustration posts!) Then it was all sent back through the console to the tape machine and I recorded the rest of the song there.
Mixdown was sent from tape through the console and in stereo to the computer. Wavelab 6.0 was used to apply a couple of lasat minute touches and save to .wav file format. Then it was converted to MP3 for your perusement and posted here.

If any of you have any questions as to the whats and hows feel free to drop me a line in the Comments section and I will get right back to you. Enjoy.
